Obituary of Gloria BATENCHUK
GLORIA BATENCHUK
Peacefully on January 9, 2009 at Malvern House, Gloria passed away at the age of 61 years, surrounded by a loving and caring staff and with all her guardian angel girlfriends by her side.
Gloria is survived by her loving mother Evelyn Batenchuk; caring sister Shirley (Lloyel) Hull; caring brother Gordon; nieces Carrie (Tom) and Leanne (Scott); nephews Aiden and Duncan.
She was predeceased by her father Tony.
Gloria was born August 18, 1947. Along with her twin brother Gordon, they were born in a taxi on the way to Gimli Hospital. Gloria grew up living on the farm then resided in Brooklands, the West End, St. Andrews, Selkirk and Winnipeg.
Early in Gloria's life she was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. This debilitating illness did not break her spirit. Gloria resided in a number of care homes in Selkirk and Winnipeg, all who offered her supervised care and a home environment.
Gloria was a kind, compassionate and loving spirit. She was considerate of others and enjoyed sharing her life at Malvern House.
The family would like to thank the staff at Malvern House. Many thanks to all her beautiful girlfriends who befriended Gloria and made her life safe, enjoyable and memorable.
To celebrate her life, a Memorial Service will held on Tuesday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gloria's memory to the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society, 4 Fort Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1C4.
