Obituary of David Ball

David Allen Ball December 28, 1959 - January 21, 2011 The family of David Allen Ball is saddened to inform you that David has lost his five and a half year battle with brain cancer as of January 21, 2011. He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-six years, Tracy, and daughters Shannon and Abigail Ball. Coping with the loss of their son are his parents, Allen and Marjory Ball of Parksville, B.C. He will also be remembered by his loving brothers and sisters, including Gordon Ball and his wife, Darlana, and their daughter, Jamie and his wife Kim and their three children, and Karen Gault and her husband Robbie, as well as their two sons. David would like to thank the staff at Cancer Care for all of the effort they put forth into trying to win a hopeless fight, as well as the many other people who helped keep Dave at home for as long as possible. He would also like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for aiding him when staying at home was no longer an option. The funeral and celebration of David's incredible spirit will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on January 26, 2011, at 7:00 P.M. A cremation will follow. David had many passions in his life, and his daughters were on the top of the list. Dave was passionate about science, travel and, especially, children, and he found a way to blend all of these incredible passions together. He spent many years volunteering at Inkster School where he helped the children expand their knowledge and love of both science and learning. Dave could also be found judging school science fairs, as well as provincial ones. David's love for science was reflected in his love for his career, meteorology. Dave loved what he did and took great pride in furthering the science behind it all and helping to encourage and train others. Even after his diagnosis, he continued to work and travel the world. He traveled to both China and Germany, and spoke to and trained meteorologists from around the world, often staying up all night to attend his tele-conferences. David's zeal for books, especially science fiction and fantasy stories, led him to create his own online bookstore. He shared his love of books with both of his daughters, in whom he nurtured a love of reading that will extend long after he is gone. Dave took special delight in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, a delight he shared with his eldest daughter, Shannon, along with horses and science. Dave also loved his dogs, especially his malamutes, as does his younger daughter Abigail, they both held a true, undying love for all of them. These things that Dave shared with others will not be forgotten, nor end, but shall be the bridge that will forever link him to all of those who's lives he touched. Though he is gone, he will live on in our hearts, and in our minds. When you think of him, be not sad, but smile, and remember all of the good times that we shared with David.
