Obituary of Antonio Baeta

Antonio Baeta July 20, 1941 - March 10, 2011 With great sadness, after a short battle with cancer, we announce the peaceful passing of Tony on March 10, while surrounded by his family. Left to cherish his memory are, his loving wife Beatriz, son Tony (Sandy), daughter Cristina (Jeff) and grandchildren Lauren, Carmen, Caitlin and Brady. He will also be missed by his family in Toronto and Portugal as well as many friends he made in Winnipeg. Tony was born and raised in a small village in Portugal. He moved to Lisbon at a young age and began working and studying. As a young adult, he moved to Africa for two years. He met Beatriz, the love of his life, on the boat trip back to Portugal. He immigrated to Canada in 1961, exchanged letters with Beatriz for over two years and later married her by proxy in 1963. Tony became a proud Winnipegger and was also one of the founders of the Portuguese Association. He was actively involved with the church and his strong faith guided him through life. His family enjoyed many vacations, but especially loved the trips back to Portugal. Tony and his family spent their summers camping, loved to go fishing together, and enjoy a good campfire. When not camping, Tony could be found tending to his yard and vegetable garden. He was a handyman with a talent for carpentry and was always looking to help his kids with home improvement projects. Tony was a very proud grandpa (Avo) who cherished the opportunity to take in extra-curricular activities that his grandchildren were involved in. His fondest moments in life were definitely those spent with his family that he loved so much. Prayers will be said on Monday, March 14 at 6:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 15 at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street N. Entombment at Holy Angels Mausoleum, Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tony's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. Our time with Tony was cut too short, but his memory lives on in our hearts.
