ERNIE LINDGREN

Obituary of ERNIE LINDGREN

April 5, 1941 - December 30, 2011 I've enjoyed my life and was happily retired at the time of my passing. I am grateful to have been surrounded by my family: Iris, my wife of 48 years, together in good times and bad; my son Grant with his wife Gerry and my granddaughters, Morgan and Avery; my daughter Tara; and my son Brian with Nancy. I am very proud of my children. I was also blessed with the company of some of my closest friends. I was born on the farm in Teulon, and although I lived most of my life in Winnipeg, I was lucky to be able to spend much of my retirement days back at the farm. I'm happy to have never lost touch with my family from those early days: my twin sister Ivy, my cousins Len (Margaret), Dorothy (Bob), Ken (Marsha), Flo (Wilf), Lorraine (Bob) and Lyle. I even got a new brother when Ken married my sister-in-law Pat. There is also John Langston (Carol), who has been a true friend since we were kids together in school, and I have a bunch of great nieces and nephews. I happily remember my working years from 1959-1994 with Monarch Life, North American Life and Manulife, where I met so many life-long friends that I'm not able to mention them all here, though I would like to. Thank you for your friendship over the years. Thank you also to the friends I made in my "hobby" job at Rona from 1999 - 2006. I have many fond memories of curling at the West Kildonan Curling Club, going back to 1969, and I'm proud to have served as president of the club in 1975/1976 and to be an active member of the PPWKCC. I have very fond memories of camping and fishing with my family and friends, and of the many hunting trips with all my good hunting buddies. I have made many friends curling, camping and hunting, and I am proud to have maintained many of those friendships. I had the fortune to call Iris' family my own: Vicky and Gary, Harold and Valerie, George and Mary. I want to thank Vicky for being there for Iris, especially in these last tough months. I had a good life and I died peacefully. Thanks to Dr. Macek for his counselling and direction, to Nurse Kent and the other staff at the Concordia Hospital ICU. Thanks also to Dr. Chowdhury, Nurse Linda and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Concordia Foundation so that others may benefit from the same type of care that I had. A Gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
