DAVID BELL

Obituary of DAVID BELL

In the wee hours of December 29, 2011, surrounded by his family, Dad went to his final resting place. Dave was born on October 2, 1925 in Kirkcaldy Scotland to Dave Sr. and Grace. Coming to Canada as a lad, wee Davie grew up in Elmwood where he won the Manitoba Speed skating championship. He joined the Navy at age 16 because he could swim and not fly, spending time on the PT Boat returning to marry Yvonne Macauley. In June of 1946, they started a life of 60 years together. Dave worked as a sheet metal worker, as a salesperson for Black Cat and Nelsons Chocolates, then finally retiring from the Winnipeg School Board in 1988 after more than 20 years of service. Mom and Dad spent many happy times together traveling to Hawaii, Scotland, Cuba, and Australia, as well as kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland. They enjoyed many winters in Texas and summers at their cottage at Pelican Lake. Family was very important to dad as he always said, "Family comes first." He will sadly be missed, but fondly remembered by daughter Debbie (Charles) Siegel, son Darrell (Loretta), grandchildren Michael, Meghan (Chris), Amanda, Karie, Cassandra, and Kyle, nieces and nephews, as well as many good friends. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne and son, Kenny. The family would like to extend many thanks to the wonderful staff of River East Personal Care Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of ones’ choice. A gathering will be held in Dave’s honour on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
