Obituary of GERTRUDE MATILDA KENYON

Gertrude Matilda Kenyon (1920 – 2013) Gertrude (Gertie) was born September 21, 1920 to Thomas and Bella McClay at Belmont, Manitoba. She passed away on November 13, 2013. She received her education in a country school, "Mount Hope", and finished high school in the town of Belmont. On October 25th, 1941 she married John (Jack) Kenyon. They farmed until October of 1944 and then moving to Belmont to take over a trucking business. Gertie loved sports – playing softball, curling, 5-pin bowling, playing cards and dancing. Her life centered around her church; she taught Sunday School and was on several boards in Belmont, Rivers and Brandon. Church and her faith in Christ were important aspects of her life. In October 1952 the family moved to Rivers for 6 years and then to Brandon in November 1958. Gertie was predeceased by an infant son in 1945, her father in 1968 and her mother in 1981. She also lost 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Ernest (1923), twin brother Murton (1943 during active service overseas), George (1962), Alvin (1996), Ellen (1992), Mary (2004) and Isabel (2006). Her husband Jack passed away December 28, 1991. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage. Sadly her 2 oldest sons passed away in 2010 – Larry in March and Jim in June. On May 20, 1995 Gertie married Rae Reid and she gained an extended family of step-daughters Janice (John) Jones and Marlene (Tom) Carson, 4 step-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-grandchildren. Mom felt truly lucky and blessed to have these people in her life. Gertie is survived by her husband Rae, her son Allen (Alys) of Winnipeg and daughter Joy (Alfred) Perro of Edmonton. She has five grandsons – Randy, Rick, Chris, Lance and Andy — and two granddaughters – Pam and Angela. She has 5 great grandsons and 6 great-granddaughters. The family appreciates the care and kindness shown to Gertie during her time at Tuxedo Villa. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Inkster. Interment and graveside service will take place in Brandon in the Spring of 2014.
