VERA DIAKOUN

Obituary of VERA DIAKOUN

VERA DIAKOUN It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt Vera on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Seven Oaks Hospital with her family by her side. Vera was born in the Lviv Region, Ukraine on October 30, 1949. She moved to Canada to be with her sister Lilia and her family in 1992. Vera and Lilia have always had a deeply connected relationship and Vera always treated her nephew Michael and niece Martha as if they were her own children. Shortly after her arrival to Canada, she met and married the love of her life, Richard Sliwka. Vera was a caring mother and grandmother and was always there for her family. She had many friends both in Ukraine and Canada that loved and cherished her dearly. Since her arrival to Canada, Vera worked for Holy Family Home and was deeply loved by residence and co-workers alike. She always had a positive attitude and a profound compassion for others which was infectious. She was always willing to sing and dance and bring joy to all those around her. Vera will be deeply missed by all her family and friends who frequently joined her around the table for food, laughter and love. Vera was an amazing cook who never let anyone leave her home wanting for anything. Richard has shown the depth of their love in the incredible devotion he has displayed staying by her side since the discovery of her brain tumor on June 7, 2013. Despite the difficulty of her final months, she was surrounded by loving family at all times. Her daughter Maryana has been a constant pillar of support along with her grandson, Rostyslav. Vera was also joined by her daughter Olena and grandchildren Marta and Kolya, who flew in from Ukraine to be by her side. Prayers will be said on Sunday, November 3 at 7:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10:00 am at Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main Street with interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main Street.
