KAREN RUTA

Obituary of KAREN RUTA

KAREN RUTA January 9, 1958 to October 13, 2013 It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce Karen’s passing on October 13, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 34 years, Michael, her children, Nicholas (Julia) and Laura (Justin), her mother Joy Stone, brother Keith Stone (Rose), sister Donna Stone, brothers-in-law Tom Ruta (Lisa), Terry Ruta (Sylvia), sister-in-law Catherine Gazie (Feisal) and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Karen was a beautiful person and everyone who knew her loved her. After graduating from West Kildonan Collegiate she completed her ARCT Diplomas both in piano and singing. She began offering private music lessons in Victoria, Calgary and then Winnipeg. Karen loved music and teaching the joy of music to her students. She helped develop many accomplished musicians through her program. Most importantly her students appreciated her positive and nurturing attitude, home baked cookies, and the company of Penny the family pet; Karen’s constant companion during lessons. Karen’s true pride and joy was raising her children who she loved deeply. She was always there to provide guidance, support, love and positive encouragement to them. For Karen education was everything and she told her children that they had no choice but to graduate with degrees from University. She was very proud of both children when they graduated. She was especially delighted to welcome Justin and Julia to the family when Laura and Nicholas decided to marry. She treated both spouses as if they were part of our family from the beginning and always extended her love to them. Karen and her husband enjoyed many happy times during vacations with their children in Penticton and Mexico. When the children were old enough Karen and Michael travelled to locations in the United States and Europe. Their last trip to Italy was especially memorable involving attendance at many operas including the annual opera festival held in Verona. Karen loved her husband dearly and willingly shared her wisdom and advice when Michael most needed it. Michael loved Karen from the moment he met her. It is difficult to imagine carrying on life without her. We are very grateful to all of our friends and family who joined us in our time of need to pray for us, bring meals, and spend time with Karen. We will always remember the kindness extended to us by many. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their professionalism, care and kindness offered to our family. There will be a memorial service at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Friday, October 18th, 2013 at 10a.m. followed by a private interment for family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Karen`s memory to the Manitoba Opera Association. We love you mom – you will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
