Obituary of ADELAIDE (ADDIE) SMITH
ADELAIDE (ADDIE) SMITH
(NEE HAUSER)
February 17, 1942 - July 26,2013
Addie passed away peacefully on July 26, 2013 at Oakview Place, her residence
for the past three years. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ward, daughter,
Kathleen (Don) Proskin, son Kevin and grandchildren, Connor and Evan Proskin,
brothers, Ken (Marilyne) Hauser and Wayne (Lynn) Hauser.
Addie worked part-time for the St. James Library and then the Winnipeg Library,
retiring in 1997 from the Ellice & Arlington Branch.
She was always involved in the community. She was an area coordinator for the
Cancer Campaign as she was a two-time survivor and she always volunteered for many
of the events at the local community club.
Addie enjoyed sports - curling at the Assiniboine Memorial and she served a term
as President of the Assiniboine Ladies. She bowled in several leagues with Ward and
enjoyed golfing with Ward and was a member of Pinawa and then the Teulon Golf Club.
She was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 2000 and fought the disease but it
gradually took away her ability to do the things she enjoyed requiring her to go into
Oakview Place.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Oakview, especially the 3rd floor for
their kind and considerate professional care.
There will be no service as Addie wanted everyone to remember her as she was
before Parkinsons destroyed her life.
In Addie's memory, a donation may be made to the Parkinsons Society of
Manitoba 7-414 Westmount Drive Wpg. MB R2J 1P2.
