To Steve's family.I am so sorry for your loss. I first met Steve on our TQ4 course in ~84. We were friends since. We may not have seen eachother all the time, but when we did sail or worked at the school it ws like old times. We were on the same watch onboard Athabaskan during the Gulf War. We sat side by side for the whole trip. Steve was a very good NCIOP and I learned a lot from him. Whenever I went to Winnipeg for work I tried to meet up but he was always very busy. My loss :( I look forward to seeing him again in heaven where we can laugh about the good times we had while in the Navy. See you again my friend.

I've known Steve for many years and had the honour of serving with him in Halifax. He was renowned for his exceptional personality, dedication and optimism. He was a role model for younger sailors and his selflessness easily made him a great crew member onboard any ship. His presence was felt wherever he served and his ability to improve morale with his great sense of humour is something that many of us in the military try to emulate. My deepest sympathy to his family in this difficult time.

Steve, we will all miss your smile, your friendship and your eagerness with Frank to help at the campground. You have left us with some great memories in the seemingly short time that we have known you. Everyone here will be thinking of you as we sit around the campfire, walk on the beach and watch the windmill turn when there seems to be no wind.

Every time you heard the name Steve Stanick a smile would come to face of everyone who new him. A rare man without enemies and with a heart of gold. If you talked to Steve for 5 minutes then you were laughing for 4 and a half of them. He was always so proud of his girls and took many opportunities during the long mids to extol the adventures and the joys of fatherhood. I am a better man for knowing him and will always be grateful for our long chats at sea. RIP Steve

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to all of Steve's family and close friends. This comes as a shock. I sailed with Steve on HMCS Margaree (he wasn't there the whole time but I did from 86 to Jan 90). He was always making people laugh and he was serious when at work in Ops and was so reliable. I hadn't seen Steve in over 12-15 years, and yet I remember a lot of details about him, because he was such a person that leaves a mark on everyone around him. May God and Time help your healing!
