SALLY PURVIS

Obituary of SALLY PURVIS

SALLY LOUISE PURVIS 1952 -2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sally Louise Purvis, 59 years, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, December 15th, 2011 at the Riverview Health Center. Sally will be greatly missed by her busband Ian Wallace, brothers, Dave (Barb), Robert (Shirley), and Hugh, her nieces Heather and Kim, nephew Che and grand nieces Caitlin, Kaytlyn, and Laurel. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Doug and Alice. Sally was born in Winnipeg, attending Elmwood High School. In 1968 the family moved to Fort Frances, On. but Sally returned to Winnipeg finishing grade 12 @ Vincent Massey Collegiate and completing the Business Administration Course at Red River Community College. In 1977, she moved to B.C. where the love of fine food and her exceptional culinary abilities soon saw her enrolled in a chef's course with the resultant career change as a sous-chef at Seaton Villa. It was also during her time in B.C. that she met her soul mate, Ian Wallace. In 1990 they returned to Manitoba purchasing property near Oakbank where Sally spent many happy times puttering in the yard, enjoying the local wildlife and walking in nearby Birds Hill Park. Sally obtained employment as the Manager of Food Services at the Wellington. Later, another job change saw her as a chef for Via Rail with her final career change working for Canada Safeway from which she retired in 2007. Sally was a caring individual who looked after those who needed it. She did what she could to bring happiness to her parents as they aged. Her friend, Margaret could count on Sally coming each week to be sure all was well in her world - Dr appts attended, business meetings held and errands run. Sally had the ability to make life long friends wherever she went. She was always there for her friends-listening to problems and offering advice without being judgmental. She cared that her friends were happy and took great pains to remember special occasions with exquisite home made cards and delicious baked goods. She also had a great love of animals and no matter where she lived, there was a dog, cat or even a horse that were a much loved part of her family. The family is deeply touched by the many signs of affection and friendship and wishes to thank all who brought Sally comfort through their presence, care and support. Sally has many friends who will miss her kind and caring ways. We would like to thank the staff at St Boniface Hospital and Riverview Health Care Center for the care and compassion they provided . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sally's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society. A memorial service will be held on 23 December, Friday, 11 am at CROPO Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg.
