Obituary of DONALD JAMES FORGIE
DONALD JAMES FORGIE
It is with deep love, relief and sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Concordia Hospital.
Don was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 15, 1957. He spent his childhood and school years in East Kildonan and visiting the farm in Gilbert Plains.
He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years and life long friend, Nan as well as 3 loving daughters; Heather, Cara and Heidi (Nelson), 6 sweet grandchildren, Britney, Liam, Alex, Eva, Elena and Alia and his sister, Marlene, nephew Jamie and many cherished friends who became family over the years.
As a young man Don was an avid runner and enjoyed a good challenge. He joined the Winnipeg Police Service in 1975 and retired in 2003. Being a policeman was really at the core of who he was. He enjoyed giving of himself to help others anytime, no matter what the circumstance. Through his years as a police officer, Don formed many unforgettable bonds with the men he worked with. They enjoyed many long snowmobile trips together with countless hilarious adventures. Although Don suffered a sudden brain injury in 2007 his memory and beautiful spirit continued to live on in our hearts. When Don was healthy he enjoyed any challenge weather it was removing and replacing ball joints for his car in the middle of the night before heading on a long road trip, sewing a grad dress or soothing one of his grandchildren to sleep. Don was a strong, energetic, smart and reliable man who touched so many lives. He loved cheezies, Clint Eastwood movies and just reminding those around him how much he cared. It is such a relief that Don is now free from illness and at peace. He has been and will continue to be missed but we thank him so much for all that he taught us about how to treat others.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the caring and professional staff at Concordia Hospital and to the many friends that provided support through their visits.
A memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be held Tuesday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m.at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to The Manitoba Brain Injury Association or the Alzheimer’s Society.
