LIDIA FALKOWSKI

Obituary of LIDIA FALKOWSKI

LIDIA FALKOWSKI It is with deep sadness but fond memories that we announce the passing of our dear mother Lidia on December 11, 2011 at the age of 89 at St. Joseph’s Residence. She is survived by her children: Monika (Stephen) grandsons Adam, Mark, Peter and Anton; Brian (Dawn); Victor (Glenda) granddaughter Kara; Henry (Helen). In 2009 she was predeceased by her loving husband Stasiek of 61 years. Mom was also predeceased by her parents Anna and Karl Hoffmann, and her eight siblings in both Poland and Germany. Lidia was born on November 14, 1922 in Barany, Poland. She grew up on the family farm and with the onset of WWII, Lidia was forced to leave her beloved homeland and immigrate to Germany with her family and future husband. Lidia and Stasiekwere married in Fallingbostel, Germany on June 29, 1947. Lidia came to Canada in 1951, having to make the journey alone by boat with their young daughter to join her husband in their new homeland. Lidia and Stasiek shared the story of many immigrants to this country. They came with very little and from humble beginnings, and through hard work and determination were able to build a successful life for themselves and their four children. Lidia was a very strong, determined, honorable and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had a most gentle and kind manner about her and was an incredibly giving person who had a deep love for life, family and friends. She was a proud Canadian with a tremendous work ethic who made many sacrifices for her family. She worked in the restaurant and garment industry. Lidia and Stasiek loved the outdoors; camping, boating, fishing, mushroom and blueberry picking. Lidia loved to entertain and was well known for her hospitality, cooking and baking. She was at her best hosting a houseful of family and friends. We remember our Mother and Babcia for her humility; she never had an unkind word to say about anyone, and had a thoughtful, reflective quality about her, always thinking before she spoke. The family gratefully acknowledges the patience, kindness and support of the Unit II Staff at St. Joseph’s Residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Holy Ghost R. C. Church, 341 Selkirk Ave at 10:00 am with visitation before the service at 9:30. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery 4387 Main St. with a reception to follow at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lidia’s Memory to St. Joseph’s Residence, 1149 Leila Ave., Wpg.
