PAULINE BOHONIS

Obituary of PAULINE BOHONIS

Pauline Bohonis September 14, 1925 – December 12, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pauline Bohonis. Pauline passed away peacefully at Selkirk District and General Hospital on Monday morning with family by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Pearl Woroniak, husband, Nicholas Bohonis, her long time partner, Ross Perkins, as well as 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and close extended family. Polly was born on September 14th, 1925 in Hazelridge, Manitoba, (Cooks Creek). Polly was a hard worker. She lived on the farm until she and her sister, Nettie, decided it was time to move to Winnipeg. Polly’s first job was at a potato bag company until she landed a great job working for Canada Safeway. She would spend the rest of her working days in the egg grading department. She retired from Safeway in 1987. Polly married Nicholas Bohonis in 1950. His unexpected death at an early age, prompted Polly to move into an apartment, Valhalla Towers. It was here that after a few years she met Ross Perkins. Soon after, they moved to Country Estates in Birds Hill, where she lived until she could no longer stay there independently. This was a difficult time for her since she had always been so independent and was always the caregiver and now needed to be cared for. Growing flowers and keeping them alive, was one of Polly’s talents. It was not unusual to see a large, healthy poinsettia well into March or even April. Fancy dinners, dancing and Blue Bomber football were a couple of Polly’s interests. She loved to entertain and have a house full of friends and family. She was the model hostess. When you went to Polly’s, you were made to feel so welcome and important, and of course, you would need to be fed. Polly was an exceptional cook and her table presentation was impeccable. She always had a genuine interest in your life and sincerely cared and listened. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. Funeral Service for Pauline Bohonis will be held on December 16th, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. As per Polly’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment to follow. Donations may be made in Polly’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society, 10 – 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4G2 or a charity of your choice.
