Obituary of JOSEPH VODOPIVEC
JOSEPH VODOPIVEC
After a lengthy illness, our husband, dad and grandfather passed away peacefully in his home on May 18, 2013 at the age of 81. He leaves behind his devoted wife Stanka, his children Dennis (Doris), Doris (Geoff) and Joe (Kim); his grandchildren Bret, Matthew, Jenna, Daniel, Danica and Ethan; his sister Jozica as well as extended family in Canada and Slovenia.
Our father was born on August 25, 1931 in the village of Preserje, Slovenia to parents Ignacij and Marija. His dream was to travel the world, and that he did. On February 2, 1952, he found himself in a new land called Canada, with only the clothes on his back and his determination. His desire for adventure and prosperity took him from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Kamloops, B.C., Prince George to Thompson, Manitoba and all places in between, finally settling in Winnipeg where he met his wife, Stanka. Together for the next forty seven years they raised a family, tied together in faith, with the belief that family is first and foremost, supporting each other through joyful and trying times.
Joe worked as a furrier for D. Cohn Trans Canada Furriers where he propelled himself to foreman of the plant, retiring in 1996. He shared his love of travel as he enjoyed taking his family on vacations to various parts of our fine land. His passion for history, making wine, taking care of his home and most of all, his family, was a big part of who he was.
It could be said that there was nothing that Dad could not accomplish without some thought and even more hard work. A little hard work was something our father never feared.
We would like to thank home care worker, Mauricio and the people who have made the past few years a little easier for him as he struggled with his health. And special thanks to our daughter/ sister Doris, who lovingly and patiently ensured his medical needs were met supporting dad and always being there for him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 95 Macdonald Ave. with viewing at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joseph’s memory to Our Lady of Lourdes Church – "Elevator Fund".
