FLORIAN MARGRAF

Obituary of FLORIAN MARGRAF

FLORIAN HERBERT MARGRAF August 11, 1929 – May 3, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florian Herbert Margraf, loving husband, father and cherished Opa. Florian was born in Munster, Germany and grew up in Magdeburg, East Germany. He fled to West Germany in 1951 and eventually settled in Monchengladbach where he met his future wife Wilhelmine (Mina) and was married in May 1956. He studied engineering and education for a while before he and Mina decided to move to Winnipeg, Canada with two small children in 1964. He started working in construction and later graduated from the carpentry program at the Manitoba Institute of Technology. He spent most of his working life as a journeyman carpenter retiring from Manitoba Hydro in 1994 after ten years in the company's maintenance shop on Taylor Avenue. Florian was a private man with a small circle of friends but if you were among them he would do anything for you. He enjoyed a good joke and could tell a great story. He loved nature, working with his hands, music, playing the piano and travel but most of all he loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Mina, son Ralf (Janis) and grandchildren Kelsey and Jason. He was predeceased by his daughter Monica in 2009. Many thanks to Doctors Errol Doermer, Darcy Johnson and Pat Harris as well as the nurses and staff of Concordia Hospital who cared for him during his final days. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, a donation to CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated.
