Obituary of DARYL YOUNG
DARYL YOUNG
The family of Daryl Young is deeply saddened to announce his passing on April 25, 2013 at St. Boniface Hospital. Daryl was born on August 6, 1935 in Winnipeg.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Marie (Wawryk) of 54 years, his daughters Lori (Rob), grandson Tyson, and Lynn (Gil); his sister-in-law Alma (Cyril) Walker, nephews Rob (Cathy) and children Karina and Michael, Raymond (Linda) and children Tyson and Eric, and niece Karen (Ed), along with aunts and cousins.
Daryl was predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Audrey Young, his young son Michael Daryl, in-laws Michael and Elizabeth Wawryk.
Daryl worked for the City of Winnipeg, Street and Traffic Division. He was an active member of CUPE 500 and an honorary life member holding the position of chair for many years. After retirement, Daryl enjoyed the Wednesday Breakfast Club of City retirees and his Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club of former sports team members. Daryl was a member of the Orioles and North Kildonan Community Clubs as both player and coach. Sports were very important to Daryl. His passions were hockey and lacrosse. He formed and played on the North Kildonan Old Timers Hockey team. Daryl was inducted, along with his team, into the Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He was also a very active sports fan. Daryl was a season ticket holder for the Manitoba Moose and the Jets, both the original and current team.
In his teens, Daryl spent most of his summers at Grand Beach, which continued, with his family as regular campers there. He enjoyed camping and the family retreat on Lake Winnipeg for thirty-five years.
The family would like to thank the staff of 6A Family Medicine, St. Boniface Hospital for the great care and kindness given to Daryl and the family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Wednesday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke or Kidney Foundations.
