With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Pat Liba (nee Start) on Tuesday December 28, 2021 at the age of 76 years in Winnipeg, MB.
Pat leaves to cherish her memory her loving children Catherine (Stephen) Lys and Kristen (Daryn) Chernick. Grandchildren Alicia and Lucas Lys; Kayleigh and Brianna Chernick. She is also survived by her brother Gord (Bev) Start, sister-in-law Shirley Liba, cousin-in-law Ron Capp; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Pat was predeceased by her parents Douglas and Eunice start; her loving husband Ted Liba; sister Diane Start; father-in-law Ted Liba; mother-in-law Rose Liba; and brother-in-law Honourable Peter M. Liba.
Pat was born in Regina, SK on July 17, 1945. She enjoyed her early years living in Regina with her parents and siblings Diane and Gord. Pat met the love of her life, Ted while working in the same office building in Regina. They moved to Winnipeg, MB and were married August 5th, 1972. Pat stayed at home for many years raising Catherine and Kristen and we were lucky to create many special memories with mom over those years. She later returned to the workforce and was with MTS in customer service for over 15 years.
Mom and dad treasured time together as a family at our cottage in Grindstone Provincial Park. We spent many summers enjoying long walks and lazy days on the beach. Mom loved to read, she often could be found lost in the pages of her latest novel. She was passionate about cheering on her favorite sports teams, including curling, baseball, hockey and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Mom and dad adored their two dogs, Kadee and Cali. Pat and Ted were most delighted to become grandparents to Alicia and Lucas. After Ted’s passing mom was blessed with two more grandchildren Kayleigh and Brianna.
Mom was very strong willed, and courageously faced many health challenges over the years including vascular dementia. We were lucky to get to spend some time with her in December, her face would still light up when she recognized those she loved most. Mom and dad created a beautiful family, we take comfort knowing they are together again. Pat will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her.
We wish to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa Extendicare Station 1 and 2 for their loving care of our mom over the last 3 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society Manitoba. A Celebration of life will take place on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
