Obituary of JUDITH ANN MCGAVIN

JUDITH A. McGAVIN

(NEE STANGL)

June 01, 1944 – May 08, 2017

Peacefully with family at her side, Judith passed away at Victoria Hospital.

She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Kay Stangl and brother-in-law Jim Hunt.

Judith will be forever missed and loved by her husband Ron; sons Cameron and Michael (Donna); daughter Lori; as well as sister Joanne Hunt; nephews Kyle (Kim) and Ryan; step niece Tracey (Roderick) Groening; sister-in-law Dianna McGavin (Murray).

Judith was born in Saskatoon and her family moved to Winnipeg in 1950. She attended Holy Cross School and St. Mary’s Academy. She met Ron in 1962, they were engaged in 1964 and married on October 2, 1965. They lived in Transcona for 38 years, then moved to a “55” plus complex in 2009 until her passing.

Judith had a special gift of caring for people and was able to listen to them as well as comfort them. During the many years of attending all her children’s sports events, many parents who got to know her would feel comfortable talking to her about their problems in confidence and enjoyed her help. She never failed to attend the children’s sports events-hockey, football, soccer, ringette and baseball, be it indoors or outdoors. She was a stay-at-home mom (domestic engineer) and was able to volunteer at the schools, church and community club where she made many friends.  She was Ron’s greatest supporter during his 53 years as a member of the Knights of Columbus, where she made many friends and became close with most of them.

She took up golfing in the late 1980’s and came to love the game (and all its frustrations). After her stroke in 2005 she lost the strength  on her right side and many times rued this fact to Ron.

Ron’s family thank all the doctors and nurses who attended Judith. A special thank you to all the nurses on the ICU and 4th floor at Victoria Hospital for their above and beyond care they provided for Judith. Also a big thank you to Tyson Buors and staff at Cropo Funeral Chapel for all their help and caring.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 31 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Road (St. Vital). Interment will be at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
