Obituary of PETER CHUBATY

PETER CHUBATY It is with deep sorrow the family announces the passing of Peter Chubaty, on Friday April 7, 2017 at the age of 82 at the Health Sciences Centre ICU unit surrounded by his family. He was born February 6, 1935 in St. Malo Manitoba on the family farm, one of 14 children of Mary and Wasyl Chubaty. Peter was predeceased by his parents, sisters and brothers -in law Anne Salamacha (Pete), Helen Samborski (Walter), Sophie Gay (Mike), Teenie Kwasnicki (John), Lena Ballan (Steve), Roman Derbowka, Pete Senavich, John DeBlois, Rose Chubaty brothers John (Dorothy) and Billy Chubaty. Peter leaves to mourn his wife Evelyn, daughter Darlene (Ray Higham), son Peter Jr. (Suzanne Rosko), granddaughter Mallory Thomson, sisters Agnus Derbowka, Jean Senavich, Gloria Urbanowich(Wally), Olga Nicolas(Gerry), Rose DeBlois, brother Nick Chubaty and several nieces and nephews. When Peter moved to Winnipeg he worked as a truck driver for Scott National and Westeel. He then bought his own truck, delivered coal for Winnipeg Supply, and advanced his career to the concrete department where he worked for his remaining years. He retired after 46 years with Winnipeg Supply/ Building Products at the age of 71. Married to Evelyn for 62 years, theirs was a true love story. They were committed, loyal and lived a great life together right to the end. They were fortunate to travel to many destinations, loved their many winters in Hawaii, and made many happy memories at the trailer in Winnipeg Beach and Gimli. As a long time active member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Peter drove the senior’s church bus, and hosted many fishing derbies while involved in the Men’s club. He was a member of the Manitoba Wildlife Federation and enjoyed spending time selling tickets and fundraising. Peter also enjoyed deer hunting and had many stories of his deer hunting adventures. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the amazing staff at the ICU Unit at the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion towards our family. Also to Father V. Bashutskyy and Father T. Kowch for their prayers and blessings. Prayers and funeral liturgy will be held at the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Avenue. Prayers will be held Tuesday April 11, at 7:00 pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 12, at 10:30 am. Reception to follow in the church basement after the interment.
