Obituary of JOZEF FELIKSIAK

JOZEF FELIKSIAK Peacefully but unexpectedly Jozef Feliksiak dearly beloved husband of Jean (Hadfield) passed away in his sleep at Lions Personal Care Centre on February 13, 2017 at the age 93 years. He also leaves to mourn his beloved daughters Ann (Mark) and Margaret; his granddaughters Ashleigh, (Patrick), Chelsea (Ivan) Mikayla; one sister in Poland and his brothers –in-law Peter and Clive in England (whom he regarded as his english brothers) and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and six siblings. Jozef was born the eldest of eight siblings in a small village in Central Poland June 15, 1923. When the German Army invaded Poland during the Second World War, Jozef was taken to forced labour in a German munition factory where he worked long hours under harsh conditions in captivity. He went to England after the war as a Displaced Person where he met his future wife Jean. They decided to immigrate to Canada. Jozef came to Canada in October 1956 where he worked in the gold mine at Bissett, MB. Jean arrived in March 1957 and they were married in Selkirk on May 14, 1957. They both worked in Selkirk where their daughters Ann and Margaret were born. They later moved to Winnipeg where Jozef worked at any work he could to support his family. For 16 years he worked as a health care orderly until his early retirement at 63 years of age for health reasons. Joe was a familiar sight walking the neighbourhood with his dog. He loved his family with all his heart, was a good, kind husband, father and grandfather and a proud Canadian by choice. Jozef spent the last 10 years of his life living in Lions Personal Centre with multiple health problems. We wish to thank the staff for their compassionate care of him over so many years. The celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. with Visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church, 175 Colony Street. Flowers gratefully declined, if desired donations may be made to Winnipeg Humane Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. “Wieczny odpoczynek racz mu dac Panie.”
