Obituary of BRANKO MAJETIC

BRANKO MAJETIC It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Branko on Oct. 24 2014. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years Ivka , son Zelko (Theresa) and son Davor, as well as extended family in Croatia. Branko was born on Sept. 8 1932 in Popovaca Croatia. His early life in the former Yugoslavia was not an easy one. He trained in the blacksmith trade but decided that was not something he would continue and self-taught as an engineer, which would also enable him to go to Slovenia and subsequently immigrate to Canada in 1957. He was introduced to the love of his life Ivka when she arrived in Canada in May of 1961. After meeting her he went back to Red Lake where he was working in the mine and sent her a letter that he wanted to see her again. On July 1 he came back to Winnipeg and asked Ivka to marry him and they married on July 29 after only meeting 3 times. They settled in Cochenour, Ontario and started their family. Zelko was born in 1962 and Davor in 1964. In 1966 they moved to Winnipeg where Branko began working in construction. Branko and Ivka eventually moved into the East St, Paul area with their family and lived there for many years in different homes which they built together. Branko ran a disposal business in Edmonton and then returned to Winnipeg and started Branko Demolition & Disposal along with his sons. Branko was a master of many trades in his thought process he could visualize and manufacture pretty much anything out of metal or wood. Most recently working on expansion of the shop, which is where he enjoyed spending many hours, with his sons, on projects even up to his unexpected last moment. Branko and Ivka travelled to Croatia many times to visit with family and friends. He was very supportive of the Croatian community and was a dedicated family man and will be missed. The family wishes to thank Roy and Kevin for attending to Branko as well as fire and paramedics and the ER and ICU staff at the Concordia Hospital for their compassion and care. 　 Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 1 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Tavelich Croatian Catholic Church, 2688 Main St. with Fr. Robert Polz presiding. Viewing prior at 10:00 a.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Branko’s memory may be made to St. Boniface Hospital.
