Obituary of ISIDORO ESTEVES SOUSA

ISIDORO ESTEVES SOUSA On October 17, 2014, with loved ones by his side, Isidoro Sousa passed away at the age of 72 following a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout it all, always with the most positive attitude, and never wanting his family to worry. “I am good … I feel much better today “are the words he would answer when asked How he was doing. A true inspiration for all that interacted with him during this difficult time. Isidoro was predeceased by his parents Avelino and Maria (Esteves); wife Amelia and brothers Augusto and Americo. He is survived by his daughter Anabela; grandchildren Austin and Mia; special friend Linda; brothers Arlindo (Rosa), Manuel (Leonor), Jose (Olinda) of Portugal; sisters Arminda and Fernanda (Jose) of Portugal and Adelaide (Florencio) and Ceu (Manuel) of Montreal; and with numerous nieces and nephews in Winnipeg , Montreal and Portugal . Isidoro was born on January 1, 1942 in Verdoejo, Valenca Do Minho, Portugal. Serving three years in the Portuguese Army at the age of 18, he was posted in Portugal and Guinea, Africa. Upon returning he began working by trade as a carpenter which led him to immigrate to Canada searching of a better life. Leaving his love behind, he returned to get married and brought Amelia with him to start their lives and family together in Winnipeg. He spent many years working for various companies Up North, (as they put it) where he made long lasting friendships with men he worked with. He loved visiting Portugal and spending time with his family, watching his favorite Soccer Team at his favorite Sports Club, watching his grandchildren in their events, dancing at the legion where he met his 2nd love (Linda), playing the “occasional “card game …” you want to lose” was the start to any Crib match, followed by that smirk he was so well known for … and we cannot forget tending to his apple trees. He will be remembered for his gentle kindness, enormous strength, respect and compassion for others and the courage he demonstrated right to the end. He will truly be missed by all that know him. A special thanks goes to the wonderful staff at Grace Hospital, both of the CancercCare Unit and the nurses and aides on the 5th Floor. Your care and compassion is greatly appreciated. Prayers will be said on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street N. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., also at the Church. Interment to follow in the Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.
