ERNIE V. GROSS

Obituary of ERNIE V. GROSS

ERNIE V. GROSS It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Ernie Gross, at the age of 86, in his home on Sunday, September 21, 2014. He was predeceased by his wife Eva. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Susan (Bob), granddaughters Terri (Sean) and Melanie and great-grandchildren Bryce and Cassidy, and stepson David Mattern (Val), grandchildren Kristen, Paul (Lisa) and great-grandchildren Delany and Jackson. He was the oldest of seven children, Gladys (Sid), Mildred (Ken), Marion (Victor), Fred (Ruth), Cliff (Dori), and Harold (Marylin). Ernie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed events with his family, especially the summer barbeques, and relished in the stories of his great-grandchildren. Dad had worked for Eaton's for over 25 years until his retirement laying carpet which he took great pride in. He really started to enjoy life after he retired. It was a time to start doing all he loved to do but had been too busy to. Dad became a member of CASARA and received his 25 year pin recently. He enjoyed being part of the stamp club and investors club. He was a long time member and volunteer of the Good Neighbours Senior Centre where he enjoyed playing cards on Saturday night. Dad was either woodcarving, painting, reading, bowling, golfing, lawn bowling, curling or enjoying meeting his friends of the Eaton's Retirement Club or Thursday morning breakfast group. He even took classes on how to cook for one. Up to a year and half ago, dad had been walking five miles a day at the mall and was very proud of the number of cards he filled out. Dad loved to talk and would always be proud of the hours he spent on the phone each Wednesday night with his brother Fred. He always had an opinion and was willing to share it freely especially if it was about saving money. Cremation has taken place with a private family service at the graveside to follow at a later date. We would like to thank the Winnipeg Paramedics and Police and medical examiner for the caring they showed our dad.
