Obituary of KATHLEEN LAVERY

KATHLEEN LAVERY It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing on August 31st of Kathleen Lavery, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mom was born on September 4th, 1922 in Newry, Northern Ireland, to Margaret and William Ellison. She met the love of her life, Murtagh, when she was only 16 years old and began her life journey. Married on February 24, 1943 they celebrated the birth of their daughter Bernadette and son John before immigrating to Canada in 1956 and settling in Winnipeg. Their daughter Moira was born a few years later and their family was complete. Her life was not short of challenges but her love and commitment to her family was steadfast. Relocating to Toronto in 1968 proved difficult as her first grandchild was born in Winnipeg that same year. The call of family proved strong and they moved back to Winnipeg in 1976 where she lived out her remaining years. Mom's home was open to one and all. She loved to cook and thrived when friends and family filled chairs around the table. There was always food enough and room for one more person. Always the hostess, she was happiest when the sound of laughter and merriment filled the room. She doted on her grandchildren and showed their pictures off with pride to anyone who was around. She lost her beloved Murt in 1999 and always seemed a little lost since. It warms our hearts to know that they have finally been reunited and look down on us all with their beloved cocker spaniel Tyler at their side. Mom leaves to mourn her children, Bernadette Main, John (Beth), and Moira Cole (Gary); grandchildren Shannon McDowell (Jason), Jennifer Jackson (Rod), Sean (Kristen), Patrick Main, Heather Cole and Shannon Cole; great grandchildren Landyn, Savannah, Briellah, Brittany, Jessica, Emily, Caitlyn and Gabriella; and one great, great grandchild Charlotte. The family would like to thank the tremendous staff at Middlechurch Home for their compassionate care of mom for the past 8 years. A service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, September 4th at 1:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. "I'll take you home again, Kathleen Across the ocean wild and wide To where your heart has ever been Since first, you were my bonny bride The roses all have left your cheek I watch them fade away and die Your voice is soft whenever you speak And tears bedim your lovely eye Oh, I will take you home, Kathleen To where your heart shall feel no pain And when the fields are soft and green I will take you to your home, Kathleen"
