Eileen BURKE

Obituary of Eileen BURKE

EILEEN VERONICA BURKE It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Eileen Burke at Riverview Health Centre, on August 17, 2008 after a long struggle with cancer. Eileen was predeceased by her parents Maurice and Nora Burke. She is survived by her brothers Maurice (Patricia) and Brian (Patricia), numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. Eileen's parents moved west from Ontario and she was born November 13, 1913 in Regina before the family made Winnipeg their permanent home. Eileen began working at a young age. She started as a cashier and then had a long career with Canada Permanent Trust, retiring as an investment advisor. She brought a sense of purpose and high ethical standards to everything she did. Eileen also enjoyed travelling and dining out. She was a great hostess and her home was the scene of many happy gatherings featuring good food and lively conversation. After her retirement, Eileen remained active in her community and in volunteer work. She followed political and business events closely. She was a voracious reader and corresponded widely. Eileen's health declined in recent years but she continued to live life to the fullest, always most interested in the doings of her friends and extended family. She took great pleasure working in her big back yard on the Red River. The family wishes to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the care and compassion they displayed to Eileen and the support the family received. Special thanks to Dr. Wyant-Crossman, Dr. Chan and all the nurses from the WRHA and Palliative Care, especially Jennifer, Lori and Dan. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Eileen's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com
