Obituary of DENNIS SCHROFEL

DENNIS SCHROFEL It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Dennis Schrofel on Monday, November 4, 2013. Dennis was predeceased by his brother Larry, father Henry, mother Catherine, brother-in-law Norbert, and sister Eleanor. Dennis is survived by his loving wife Suzanne, sons John (Marcia), Robert (Christine), and Jim, his precious grandchildren Rhett, Jackson, Adam, Erik and Kate. He is also survived by his sister Brenda Miller (John), brother-in-law Danny Coyle (Lorraine), and his nephews and nieces Mark (Tamara) and Glenn (Anna) Patscha, Brian and Angie Miller, Richard and Diane Coyle. Dennis was born on September 13, 1939 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was always proud of his North End roots. He attended St. Joseph’s and Holy Cross School, St. Paul’s College and the University of Manitoba. After graduation, Dennis taught in the St. James School Division for thirty-three years. He taught at John Taylor Collegiate, Bruce Junior High, and Silver Heights Collegiate where he retired in 2000. Dennis was actively involved in extra-curricular activities, especially coaching basketball. He delighted in meeting former students and hearing about what they were doing with their lives. While he was forever forgetting where he had put his keys, he never forgot a student’s face and something about their lives. Dennis also established many close relationships with former colleagues. After retiring from the SJSD, Dennis continued to work in the field of education as a participant in the Standardized Patient Program through the U of M Faculty of Medicine. After retirement, Dennis always looked forward to spending time with friends, whether it be his morning coffee group, a game of bridge or a round of golf. Dennis loved being outside. He was a hunter and fisherman. He could spend hours picking blueberries or just visiting on the dock at Falcon Lake. He had a passion for gardening, reading and music. Dennis also enjoyed the many trips he was able to take around the world. Dennis treasured time with his family. He held a special joy for family gatherings, time at the lake and attending his grandchildren’s many activities. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 2:00pm at the Blessed John XXIII Parish, 3390 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, and in remembrance of Dennis, a donation may be made to Rossbrook House or a charity of your choice.
