It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Maria De Lurdes Moura, on August 10, 2024, at the age of 85.  In her final moments, she was surrounded by her children.

Maria was born on January 10,1939 in Praia, Santa Maria, Açores. After humble beginnings, Mom married the love of her life, our father Jose in 1963.  They welcomed their son Manuel shortly after and eleven years later, their daughter Judy. After some back and forth between Canada and Portugal, the family finally settled in Winnipeg in 1989. Mom worked in the cleaning industry and took great pride in her job.   After retirement, mom found much happiness in taking care of all her grandchildren.

Mom was a devoted wife, an amazing mother and an incredible grandmother.  Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she took immense joy in nurturing, and caring for her family. It was very seldom, that you left her home empty handed or on an empty stomach.

Maria will be lovingly remembered by her son Manuel (Isabel), daughter Judy (Aaron), and grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Deion and Damion. Maria was predeceased by her husband Jose, parents Antonio Da Costa and Mariana de Jesus, two brothers Antonio Jr. and Jose, sisters Maria Do Carmo, Filomena and Virgina.

Special thanks to the Home Care staff that provided care for our mom over the years when she lived at home, to all the staff at St. Joseph Personal Care for their caring support, and all the nurses and doctors at Grace Hospital for their care and compassion during mom’s final moments.

Funeral liturgy will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Parish at 181 Austin St. N on Friday, August 16 at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave.

Mamãe, we will never forget your sacrifices, bravery, and kindness and the love you showed us.  May you rest in peace.
