FILOMENA DA LUZ TAVARES SOUSA Obituary

February 23, 1955 - August 16, 2022

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt and grandmother.

On Tuesday August 16, 2022 after a short battle with cancer at the Riverview Health Centre. Our mother passed away at the age of 67 surrounded by family.

Filomena will be lovingly remembered by her sons John and Jamie (Susana) and her two grandchildren Julian and Nicholas.

Our mother Filomena was predeceased by her devoted and loving husband of 20 years Jose Maria Sousa.

She was born Filomena Da Luz Tavares in Ponta Delgada, S. Miguel, Acores Portugal and immigrated to Canada on January 28, 1970 with her parents Armenia and Carlos Tavares (predeceased) along with her two brothers Emanuel Tavares (predeceased)(Dulcina) and Luis Tavares (Paula)

She also is survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces that will miss her smile and her sense of humor.

We will never forget her strong faith in God and how much she adored spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren that meant everything to her.

Mom you will truly be missed and never forgotten by those who knew and loved you.

We thank all family and friends that came to see her during her fight with cancer and would especially like to thank the staff at the Riverview Health Centre for making our mothers last days as comfortable as possible.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Care Manitoba (https://www.cancercare.mb.ca/Ways-To-Help/donate) or to
