DORIS BURDEY

Peacefully on Thursday, August 2, with her daughter at her side Doris passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 95.

She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas, sister Anne Culley (Dick), brother Mike and sister Pauline.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter Donna, son Wayne (Doreen) and grandson Nicholas and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Doris was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan on October 23, 1922.  She left the farm and moved as mom would say to the “Big City of Winnipeg”.  She met her husband Nicholas and they were married in 1948.

Doris worked tirelessly as a waitress to support her family.  She worked at Rae and Jerry’s , Town and Country and the International Inn to name a few.  She retired happily at 70.

Doris was a member of St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, where it brought her such joy belonging.  She was a 40 year member of the St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League where she participated in numerous Tea’s, dinners and celebrations where her love of serving people continued.   Doris was a 22 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion 141 where she enjoyed dancing with her many friends.

Doris had lived a full and happy life.  She enjoyed living in her home till she was 93.  The last 2 years mom resided at the Holy Family Home.

Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, August 10, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson.  Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.

Thank you to the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate, Dr. Andrea Babick and all the staff for their compassionate care at Holy Family.  A special thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital.
