Obituary of CHESLEY YETMAN

CHESLEY YETMAN

1943 – 2018

Chesley Yetman died peacefully, after a long struggle with cancer, on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

Ches was a true Newfoundlander at heart with a wonderful way with words and a flair for story telling.  His career with the National Film Board of Canada allowed him to move slowly from St. John’s in 1965, west to Winnipeg, where he and his family settled in 1978.  In Winnipeg, he produced award-winning films, which brought him twice to the Oscars.  In 1987, he was the winner of a Gemini Award for co-producing Daughters of the Country, a mini-series dedicated to Aboriginal women.  Ches loved to be surrounded by people and was known for his laughter and love of life.

Ches will be truly missed by his wife of 52 years, Thelma; and his two children, Heidi (Murray) and Stefan (Shelley).  He will also be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren, Zachary, Sarah, Eddie and Sam; and by his sister Doris (Lloyd).  He also leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Jake and Freddie.

Special thanks to CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Care Centre for their dedication and compassion.

And they just carried me a way”
