Obituary of Father SDS

REVEREND FATHER JOHN A. WRONSKI, SDS Reverend Father John Wronski died peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 87 years. Father John was born in Poland on February 6, 1922. He received all his academic, theological, and spiritual formation under the direction of the Society of the Divine Saviour (Salvatorian Fathers). On completion of his novitiate and seminary training, Fr. John was ordained to the Priesthood in 1950 and sent to be a missionary in the United States. He served in a number of Polish speaking Catholic communities throughout New Jersey, Indiana, and Illinois. In 1970, he was sent to Canada, serving in Winnipeg at St. John Cantius Parish and various communities throughout western Manitoba. He traveled to Ontario in 1980 to serve the Catholic Church in Ottawa and Richmond. Fr. Wronski was a pioneer of his religious community, establishing the Salvatorian Region in Canada in 1989 when he was appointed Pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Burnaby, BC. Father John retired in 1992 to Winnipeg assisting at St. Joseph's Parish and in various parishes throughout Winnipeg. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 8 at St. Joseph Parish (Mountain Ave. and Andrews St.), Most Reverend. V. James Weisgerber, Archbishop of Winnipeg, presiding. Viewing will commence at 9:00 am at the Church. Cremation to follow with burial in Poland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winnipeg Harvest.
