Obituary of Arnaldo VICENTE

In Loving Memory of ARNALDO VICENTE 1929-2008 Peacefully, after a brief illness, Arnaldo Dos Santos Vicente, age 78, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on December 1st, 2008. Arnaldo is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Gloria, son John (Nancy), daughter Rosa Derksen, grandchildren Steven Sousa (Michelle), Nikki, Paige, Cheyenne, Dylan, and great grandchild Slade. He is also survived by his sister Adelia Frazao (Antonio) of Winnipeg, brother Adolfo (Eva) of Portugal and sister Clarisse of Hartford Connecticut. Along with his family, he leaves many friends from within the Portuguese community to mourn his passing. Born in Portugal on January 20, 1929, Arnaldo immigrated to Canada in 1965, bringing his entire family with him in search of a better life. Aside from his family, Arnaldo had two passions in life. Most importantly, Arnaldo loved to meet old friends and make new friends in and out of the Portuguese community. Another passion was his love of building, which was apparent in his lifelong involvement in the construction industry. Neither language, age or color would ever stop Arnaldo from lending a hand or an opinion to those who were counted as his friends. If the true measure of a man be in the number of friendships he developed, Arnaldo is a giant among men. Throughout his life, his connection with the Portuguese community was very important. He as a founding member of the Portuguese Association of Manitoba. He spent many years volunteering for the Association and in his later years, looked forward to spending his weekends at the Portuguese campground. These values will forever be cherished by his family and friends. The family wishes to thank Dr's. Vanameyde and Hiebert and the staff of GH4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their kind and compassionate care during his illness. Special thanks to Dr. G. Minuk for going above and beyond for both Arnaldo and the family. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, on Wednesday, December 3rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 181 Austin St. N. at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4th. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
