JOHN KORCHYNSKI 1922 - 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father and grandfather John on December 22nd, 2008 at the age of 86. John was born on April 6, 1922 in Winnipeg. He will be lovingly remembered by daughters Eda and Sonia, son Yuri, daughter-in-law Bev, grand-daughters Nali and Lasha, and by Esther in Winnipeg. He is survived by nephew Peter Hill and niece Terry Hill in Toronto. He is predeceased by his sister Helen Hill. As a young man, John was a competitive athlete and an active member of the YMCA, where he studied acrobatics. He was stationed in Bermuda during World War II. He was a proud member of the Manitoba Co-operative Association as one of his early jobs was as a People's Co-op Dairy driver. John married Esther in 1958 and began training as a Stationary Engineer. The family moved to Lynn Lake in 1968 where John worked at Fox mine and gained his First Class Power Engineer's ticket. The family returned to Winnipeg and John worked until his retirement at the Central Energy Plant at HSC. John remained physically and socially active into his 70s. He enjoyed golf, cross country skiing, social gatherings and dances. He was artistic - he drew, painted, carved and folded origami. John enjoyed puzzles and reading, and accumulated a large library over his lifetime. In his elder years, John was lovingly cared for by Sonia and Nali. John always retained his sense of humor.
