Roland Roger Cournoyer

November 24, 1948 – August 30, 2026

 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roland Roger Cournoyer on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 77. He was predeceased by his beloved parents and his siblings Rachel, Armand, Nicole, and Ginette. Rolly leaves to remember and forever miss his beloved wife, Cheryl; his son Stacy (Tracy); his daughter Caylene (Eduard); his son Tyson (Ashley); his grandchildren Sage, Ashlin, Theo, and Max and his siblings, Rose and Edouard.

Rolly was born on November 24, 1948, at St. Boniface Hospital to Yvette and Joseph, and was one of seven children. He was born and raised in Lorette, Manitoba, the community he proudly called home throughout his life.

Family was at the heart of everything Rolly did. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and someone who could always be counted upon when his family needed him. Rolly never thought twice about doing whatever needed to be done for his children and grandchildren. He took great pride in caring for the people he loved and was always willing to lend a hand, offer support, or simply be there.

Cheryl was the love of Rolly's life, and together they shared many years filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. They especially enjoyed attending sporting events together, cheering on their favourite teams and sharing the excitement of a good game. They also enjoyed travelling together, even if Rolly liked to tease that travelling wasn't really his thing. Whether they were away on vacation, out watching a game, surrounded by family, or simply at home together, Rolly was happiest when with her.

Rolly was a loving and devoted father to Stacy, Caylene, and Tyson. He took great pride in his children and was always there for them, never hesitating to help with whatever they needed. His love for his children was unconditional, and he found great joy in watching them build their own lives and families.

He was an especially proud and loving grandfather. He absolutely adored his grandchildren from the moment they were born. Being a grandfather brought Rolly tremendous joy, and he treasured the special time he spent with each of them. He was a wonderful grandfather who created many happy memories filled with laughter and love, whether it was simply holding them in his arms as babies (he was a bit of a baby whisperer) or zipping around the yard on the riding mower with them on his lap.

Rolly was a hardworking and dedicated man who enjoyed a long career with Air Canada, where he worked for 37 years. Outside of work, he enjoyed hunting and spending time outdoors.

Rolly was a lifelong sports fan and enjoyed watching and following many sports. He was a loyal supporter of the Winnipeg Jets, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Toronto Blue Jays, watching games whenever he could. One of his last moments was shared with Caylene, watching the Bombers play from his hospital bed, ever complaining about the officiating to the end!

There was little Rolly could not do, always building or fixing something. His proudest accomplishments were building, from the ground up, both his home in Lorette and cottage in Grindstone Provincial Park. These were testaments to his hard work, determination, and ability to take care of his family. While he enjoyed travelling, hunting and attending sporting events, Rolly was happiest simply being at home. It was there, surrounded by the people he loved, that he was most content. His home became a place where family gathered, memories were made, and laughter was shared.

 Above all else, Rolly will be remembered for the love he gave so freely to his family. He was the kind of person who showed his love through his actions—by building, helping, providing, fixing, supporting, and always being there. He was a man who made his family feel cared for, supported, and loved, and whose laughter and presence will be deeply missed.

 A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba are welcome.
