Glen Edward Chubey of Carlowrie, Manitoba, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., at the age of 50, surrounded by his loving family following a sudden diagnosis of an aggressive pancreatic cancer.

Glen leaves to cherish in his memory his loving wife, Holly, and their children, Owen, Lucas, and Elena; his parents, Taras and Shirley Chubey; his mother-in-law, Jeannette Lomenda; his brothers, Gordon (Nancy}, and his sons Liam and Cohen, and Andrew (Rebecca), and their children Isaac and Clara; his brothers-in-law, Dean (Brenda), and their children Ethan, Emily, and Mallory, and Derek (Mel), and his children Brett and Journey; as well as his Baba, Mary Chubey; numerous aunts and uncles, cousins and unlimited number of friends.

Glen was predeceased by his Didos, Peter Baryliuk in 1991 and Harry Chubey in 1996; his Babcia, Margaret Baryliuk, in 2022; and his father-in-law, Rodney Lomenda, in 2024.

Glen was born at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, arriving one day early - typical. He grew up in Winnipeg surrounded by friends, filling his childhood with street hockey, summer sports, and Ukrainian dance. Many of his weekends were spent at the family farm, working alongside his Dido and his father. Those early days on the farm helped shape the path his life would take, and farming soon became one of his greatest passions.

In 1998, Glen graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture - a true "Aggie." After graduation, he began farming at his grandparents' farm with just a few head of cattle. In 2003, he built his own homestead a few miles away and through years of hard work and dedication, grew his herd to more than 125 cow-calf pairs.

Alongside farming, Glen built a career within the agricultural community, working with Simplot, Paterson Grain, Catellier Seeds, and most recently Rosenort Agro. Wherever he worked, Glen formed lasting relationships with his colleagues, farmers and neighbours. He was always willing to answer the call and lend a helping hand to a farmer, friend, or family member in need.

While building his career as a Farmer, his keyboard found the love of his life, Holly Anne, from Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. After a short courtship, they became engaged and were happily married on September 24, 2005, in Winnipeg, beginning the life and family they would build together.

Glen's faith was steady throughout his life. He began serving as an altar boy alongside his best friend Adam and his brother Gord. Glen attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School and was part of the ordination of Fr. Michael Winn, a special memory. He served alongside Emeritus Metropolitan Stefan Soroka and after he passed, received his last blessing from him.

Since 2019, Glen had served as president of Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Rosa, Manitoba, the same church where he was baptized and where his Dido Harry Chubey served in the same capacity. His faith was at the heart of his family, and he took great pride in helping guide his wife and children closer to God. Even throughout his illness, Glen never complained that life had dealt him an unfair hand. He faced what came with remarkable strength and dignity, continuing to visit, laugh, and share time with friends and family right up until his final hours.

Glen also had many passions that brought him joy. He enjoyed curling out of Dufrost, assisting with Owen's hockey team, and driving Elena and Lucas to Ukrainian dance. But above all, his greatest hobby and passion was the farm. And when it came to his favourites, Glen was unwavering: there was one band-the Beatles, one movie-Star Wars, and one hockey team-the Edmonton Oilers.

Glen will be remembered by all who loved him for his quick sense of humour, his kind heart, his lovable ability to be a pain in the rear, and his remarkable gift for speaking from the heart. He had a way of delivering thoughtful, off-the-cuff speeches filled with humour, wisdom, and words that stayed with you. No matter the words that you could think of Glen, which many are true, he was resilient and authentic.

A heartfelt thank you to the night crew who stayed beside Glen during the hospital stays (and all those who offered), the caring medical and auxiliary staff of Bethesda Regional Health Centre, the Palliative Care Team especially Nurse Kim and Drs. Wilks and Reimer, and the CancerCare team from Winnipeg. A huge thank you to Dr. Carrington Kambasha, Glen's family doctor, whose expertise and kindness helped Glen and Holly navigate his cancer.

A huge thank you to the neighbours, friends and family who helped in the fields and on the farm, gave generous donations and care packages, and-most importantly-visited Glen and the family. We are also deeply grateful to everyone who sent kind messages, offered support, and kept Glen and our family in their prayers throughout the many provinces of Canada.  Your kindness, care, and generosity have meant so much to us.

The family are so thankful and blessed for the team of ministry that gave Glen and the family strength and enduring faith during this difficult time. Rev. Father Michael Winn, Emeritus Metropolitan Stefan Soroka, Reverend Frs. Vasyl Hoi, Stefan Tywarski, Yaroslaw Buduykevych.

Service to be held at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 505 Watt Street, Winnipeg, MB, on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m..  Lunch to follow at the Holy Eucharist Parish Centre, 460 Munroe Avenue (across from the church). Interment at the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Rosa, Mb., (Hwy 59 and Road 27 E.)
