Reverend Msgr. Michael L. Moore

Reverend Msgr. Michael L. Moore died on Friday, August 7, 2026 in Morris, Manitoba.

Michael was born to Milton and Jean (Carmichael) Moore on November 20, 1940 in Winnipeg.  The family attended St. Ignatius Parish where Michael was baptized and later attended St. Ignatius School, and then St. Paul’s High School.  Michael worked for a number of years for the City of Winnipeg – Audit Department before studying for the priesthood at St. Boniface Seminary and St. Augustine’s Seminary (Toronto).

Michael was ordained a priest by His Eminence George B. Cardinal Flahiff on May 16, 1970 in St. Ignatius Church.  Fr.  Michael served the following parishes in Winnipeg:  St. Edward’s, St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Patrick’s, St. Peter’s, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Charles and St. Anthony of Padua.  He also served St. Michael’s Parish and Missions (Gimli) and Sacred Heart Parish and Missions (Virden).  Fr. Michael served as Chancellor and Financial Administrator of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg.

On January 16, 1984, Fr. Michael was invested as “Prelate of Honour” with the title of Monsignor.  He also served as Chaplain in the Canadian Army Reserve Force, Chaplain for the Serra Club, Spiritual Advisor for the Catholic Women’s League Provincial Council and State Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus.

After retirement Msgr. Michael served as Sacramental Minister at St. Ann’s Parish (Winnipeg) for six years.  Msgr. Michael was grateful to be able to share a retirement home with his good friend David Gillie.

Msgr. Michael was predeceased by his parents, brothers Peter, Tom, Joe, Paul, Philip, Bill and his sister Janet.  He is survived by his brother Bernard and many extended family members.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 1:00 pm at St. Ignatius Parish, 255 Stafford St., Winnipeg with interment, immediately following, in the Priest’s Section at Assumption Cemetery.
