Myron (Myrnie) Paulyshyn

March 28, 1935 – July 30, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Myron (Myrnie) Paulyshyn on July 30, 2026, at the age of 91, peacefully with his family by his side.

Myron is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Jean; daughter Susan (Gary); son Allan; daughter-in-law Kate; grandchildren Jason and Alex; sisters-in-law Betty and Veronica; his nieces and nephew; and many friends. He was predeceased by son James; granddaughter Sophie; parents Dan and Mary; and siblings John, Bill, and Sylvia. 

Myron was born in 1935 to Dan and Mary Paulyshyn in Cloverleaf, Manitoba.  He was the youngest of four children and grew up on the family farm.  He met the love of his life, Jean, when she arrived to teach at Cloverleaf School. In 1958, they married at Cooks Creek and moved to Transcona. There, they built their forever home on Newman Avenue and raised their family with Jim (born 1963), Susan (born 1965), and Allan (born 1967).

Myron loved Jean more than anything, and their marriage was truly wonderful. Myron loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He never missed a sporting event, concert, or music recital for his children or grandchildren. He was an undefeated Scrabble player and enjoyed playing cards, Rummikub, Jenga, and many other games with his family and friends.  He never missed the daily Jumble in the Free Press.

Myron, a man of faith, was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Myron and Jean enjoyed the fellowship of the perogy brigade at St. Michael’s for many years, and for the last couple of years, living at St. Michael’s Villa.

Myron valued hard work and was a proud union member.  He worked at Union Carbide before transitioning to the graphics arts industry, where he eventually retired from Jack Berger Industries. A new truck and fifth-wheel trailer accompanied Myron and Jean on winter adventures to Arizona, and trips to the east and west coasts of Canada. Over the years, they visited Australia frequently to see Jim, Kate, and Sophie.  They also took a trip to Thailand and Hong Kong, and had an unexpected detour to the Philippines because of a typhoon.

Myron loved the great outdoors.  He enjoyed camping, gardening, country drives, and mushroom picking.  Some of his favourite places to spend time with friends and family were Rushing River and Blue Lake in Ontario.

Myron had a big heart. He had a great sense of humour and was truly gifted at crafting a clever punchline. He was a good neighbour and took pride in the family home. He possessed natural intelligence, wisdom, and kindness. He never complained. If it was broken, he could fix it. If there was a problem, he could solve it. If you needed help, he would help you. He will be so dearly missed.

A funeral service, officiated by Very Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel, will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, located at 1442 Main St.  with interment to follow in Glen Lawn Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.
