John was born in Ashern, MB on December 12, 1953. Raised in Fairford, he went to school and met his wife Rose in Winnipeg in 1977. They were married in 1985 at Kateri Parish in Winnipeg, MB.
John worked many years and was a wonderful husband and father. He loved camping, travelling and beer. John loved to fix vehicles and to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
John was a very loving man, his heart and soul were very warm. We went through very hard times with him when we lost mom but dad was always there for us. When we lost Brendan, he was there again, fragile, he cared for us even though he couldn’t talk or walk as he was in a wheelchair, he tried his best. He was also a very generous man, always laughing and smiling. He was very supportive of many people and was a very uplifting man.
He loved music and the songs he liked were uplifting country rock music and older music. He would love to dance and be crazy. He loved his family and had such a great sense of humour.
The family would especially like to thank Cropo Funeral Chapel and the family who helped out during and after the passing of John Thompson as well as a special thanks to the Public Guardian Trustee and Lake St. Martin and Fairford for their extra support.
A wake/visitation will be held on Wednesday August 5, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., both at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day Street in Transcona.
