WILLIAM ROMAN HUSAREWYCZ

April 22, 1984 – July 25 2026

It is with devastating sadness that the family of William “Will” Husarewycz announce his sudden passing on July 25, 2026, at the age of 42 from a cardiac event.

Will, also known by his Ukrainian nickname, “Vasya”, was born on an Easter Sunday, on April 22, 1984, to his parents Vera and Stephen Husarewycz, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  He was the cherished baby of the family, younger sibling to his sister, Natalie/Natalka, and the youngest of all his cousins.

As a child, he already showed his insatiable curiosity about the world, in particular about nature and animals, able to recite facts about almost any creature in the animal kingdom.  He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School (IHMS), and participated in various extracurricular activities, but it was around the age of 8, when he was introduced to judo that his lifelong interest in athletic pursuits was sparked.

Will attended St. Paul’s High School, where he joined the wrestling and football teams, and his football team went on to play in the provincial championship at the Bomber Stadium.  He graduated in in the Class of 2002.

Will went on to have many academic and career accomplishments over his much too brief life.  He completed his Bachelor of Science (4 year) degree at the University of Winnipeg in 2009, with a major in Biology, hearkening back to his early fascination with animal creatures.  He was part of multiple scientific publications as a result of his undergraduate work in this area.

Later, he shifted his academic interests to fulfill his other desire, to help others.  He worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Manitoba, again contributing to the body of scientific literature in this area, with multiple publications.  He then joined the helping professions with the completion of his Masters of Physical Therapy (MPT) degree from the University of Manitoba in 2014.  He went on to work as a Staff Physiotherapist at Concordia Hospital, where he was a respected and valued member of the healthcare team for years.

Will’s insatiable curiosity and desire to help others led him, more recently, to return to his graduate studies and he was accepted into the Masters of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program at the University of Manitoba, joining the Class of 2026.  Sadly, he was weeks away from completing this achievement when he suddenly passed.  He loved his program, and would have helped many patients in the position he had accepted in the Orthopedic Surgery Department at Concordia, which was set to start in October 2026.

Throughout his life, Will continued to participate in athletic endeavours.  He was a valued member of Judo Manitoba, earning many podium finishes, including the first-ever Newaza (ground grappling) Grand Champion at the 2018 Judo Canada Open National Championships in Calgary.  He also participated in various Strongman competitions, volunteered for Deadlifts for Dreams, and most recently developed a passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), and was a respected member of Thrive Academy.

But to Will, what was more important than any of these accomplishments, was his family.  He and his wife, Krysta, started dating in 2003, and have never looked back.  They were fortunate to have found each other early, and have grown up together as loyal and loving partners, eventually getting married in 2011.  They welcomed their children, Mila and Alexei, who were the loves of Will’s life.  He was a doting, supportive, loving father who was involved in all aspects of their lives, and loved to talk about them to anyone who would listen, describing their interests and achievements, and looking forward to seeing them grow up.  We are heartbroken that he was taken too soon, but grateful that they had time with their beloved Daddy.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Krysta; children, Mila and Alexei; parents, Vera and Stephen; sister, Natalie (Mac); niece, Ruby; cousins Sasha (Natalya), Lesia, Stephen, Walter (Nicole) and their families; aunt, Halyna; uncle, Frank; as well as his extended family in Winnipeg and in Ukraine.  His many friends will dearly miss his infectious laugh, often hilarious insights, and quirky perspectives.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7 from 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel (1442 Main St). The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 9:30a.m. at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral (115 McGregor St). A Reception will follow at Masonic Memorial Temple (420 Corydon Ave.) from 12:00p.m. – 4:00p.m.
