JACK KAVITCH

The family announces with great sadness the passing of Jack Kavitch on July 9, 2026, at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 83. In late May, Jack underwent emergency surgery. While in hospital over the next six weeks, he battled courageously while sharing many meaningful moments with his family. He passed peacefully with his family at his side on July 9, 2026.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, John and Doris.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 60 years, Delores; sons Kevin and Sean (Shannon); brothers Danny (Priscilla) and Randy; grandchildren Shaylene, Brayden, Tyler and Mark; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Jack attended Tech Voc High School, where he studied drafting. It was there that he met the love of his life, Delores. Shortly after graduation, they began their working careers, and in 1965 they were married, beginning a partnership that would span six decades. Together they built a wonderful life centred on family, raising two sons and later taking great joy in spending time with their four grandchildren.

Jack enjoyed a long and dedicated career, spending 32 years with CN Rail before beginning a second career with Winnipeg Transit, where he worked for 23 years as a bus driver and in other roles. He took great pride in serving his community and formed many lasting friendships throughout his working years.

Family was at the centre of Jack's life. He spent many hours supporting his sons in every way from their earliest years to adulthood. That included coaching them in youth sports and always encouraging them. Along the way he provided countless examples of how to be both a good father and a good man. He later became one of the biggest supporters of his four grandchildren, proudly attending their sporting events and rarely missing an opportunity to cheer them on from the stands.

Jack had a lifelong passion for sports and faithfully supported his favourite teams, including the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets and Las Vegas Raiders. Among Jack's favourite memories were attending three Raiders games with family and friends in Winnipeg, Minneapolis and Las Vegas. Those trips became cherished family memories and perfectly reflected what Jack enjoyed most—sharing the things he loved with the people he loved, especially the opportunity to spend a week with his brother Danny and sister-in-law Priscilla during the Las Vegas trip in 2023.

Jack also had a passion for golf and especially enjoyed playing at Kildonan Golf Course. His enthusiasm for the game inspired his son Kevin to become an avid golfer, and one of the highlights of his later years was the opportunity to share a round with Kevin and grandsons Tyler and Mark—three generations enjoying the game together. It became a memory the family will always treasure.

He also enjoyed playing poker and spending time with family and friends, always appreciating good company and a few laughs.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's memory may be made to Make-A-Wish Canada.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Jack throughout his illness, along with the countless thoughts, prayers and well wishes from family, friends and co-workers.

Jack lived a life defined by hard work, kindness and unwavering devotion to his family. He leaves behind countless memories that will continue to bring smiles, laughter and comfort to all who knew and loved him. His was truly a life well lived, and he will be forever loved, deeply missed and never forgotten.
