Fenna Madejczyk

February 14, 1936 - July 14, 2026

We are heartbroken to announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Baba, Great-Baba, Aunt and friend on the morning of Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the age of 90.

Fenna was predeceased by her beloved husband Michal; sisters Anna, Maria, Justyna; brother Andriy; her mother Anna and father Michal. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children Bo (Julie); Donna (Tim); Hyla (Kirk); grandchildren David (Stacie), Andrew (Shontel), Jayann (DJ), Scott (Kim), Kyle (Amy), Jayce (Alyssa), Alicia (Dale); great-grandchildren Bohdan, Jackson, Ava, Liliana, Elias, Isabelle, Abigail, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Fenna was born in Wislok Dolny, Lemkivshchyna on February 14, 1936 on Valentines Day. God blessed her with the biggest heart, always caring for others before herself. She met her husband Michal in her village in Wislok and married on February 28, 1957 in Borzytuchom. Their three children Bohdan, Danuta and Halina were born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada together as a family in 1964. 

She was artistic, creative and had a voice like an angel; something her daughters and grand-daughter Alicia inherited. Singing played a big role in her life. She loved singing in the church choir and could be found singing anytime she was cooking, gardening, sewing or taking care of her grandchildren. Coming from a humble upbringing and farming in Ukraine, she was “strong like bull” and knew how to make the most of what they had. As the family settled in Canada, she spent a lot of her time outside, growing beautiful flowers and tending to two gardens; one in the city and one at their cottage in Matlock. She was always canning fruits and vegetables, making the best pickles and of course drying fresh picked mushrooms. She loved to host and bring family together and was always eager to entertain family and friends in her home.

Baba’s kitchen was open everyday but our special memories are on Sundays after church. We would gather and feast. You never left hungry and were always sent home with food. She was known for her Pampushky, Pyrizhky and cabbage rolls. She instilled a deep love for cooking in her children and grandchildren. Mom loved to sew; she would have an idea for an outfit and her loving husband would go find the perfect material. Sadly, sewing is a trait that neither of her daughters inherited. She nurtured in us the value of family, the importance of religion and to always embrace our Ukrainian culture. We will carry on these special values in loving memory of our Mama and Baba.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the management and caregivers at River East Personal Care Home for their kindness and support. The love and compassion you showed our mom during her time there is something we will hold dear to our hearts. 

She is now reunited with the love of her life Michal and will remain forever loved and deeply missed. 

Lord grant her eternal rest and may her loving memory be eternal. Вічная Пам'ять 

Prayers/ Panachyda will be held at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish, Monday July 20th at 7:00pm. ,

Funeral service will take place Tuesday July 21st at 10:30 a.m. also at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church.  Ukrainian lunch to follow. 

Private interment for immediate family only will be held at a later date.
