Allan Hornung

October 25, 1937 – July 9, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the age of 88, at Health Sciences Centre.

Allan leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 68 years, Irene (née Baron); his children, Michael (Pam), Theresa, Susan (Trevor); and daughter-in-law, Pam.

Allan was proud of his 11 grandchildren, Michael (Amberly), Carlee (Tad), Tyler (Amber), Ryan (Melissa), Richard (Ashley), Lucas (Kailie), Angelica, Christopher, Rebecca (Jared), Nickolas (Ryanne), Danielle; and his 11 great-grandchildren, Noah, Leah, Alexander, Annabelle, Calvin, Rayna, Coral, Edwin, Lakelyn, Levi, and Beckham;

He is also survived by his sister, Geraldine (Bart); sister-in-law, Margaret; brother-in-law, Bill (Anita); sister-in-law Terry, foster brother, Norman (Sheila); and his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved sons, Murray and Paul; his parents, Michael and Anne; his twin brother, Alvin, and sister-in-law, June; his twin sisters, Beatrice and Bernice; his brother, Gilbert; his father-in-law, William (Bill); and mother-in-law, Annie; and his sister-in-law, Joan, brother-in-law Morris (Al).

Allan was born on October 25, 1937, in Grayson, Saskatchewan. His family moved to Melville, Saskatchewan, in 1943 before settling in Winnipeg in 1947, where he built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.

In his younger years, Allan was active in the Catholic Church, serving as an altar boy and later becoming a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member of the Boy Scouts, eventually becoming a Scoutmaster, where he mentored young people by teaching leadership, outdoor skills, community service, and self-reliance.

From an early age, Allan developed the strong work ethic that would define his life. At just 15 years old, he began working, taking on a variety of jobs, including delivering coal by truck, manufacturing building products for Wilson Gregory, driving taxi for a short time, and working at Victoria Leather.

At the age of 21, Allan began an apprenticeship as a bricklayer with Walter H. Iverson, completing it four years later. As construction work was seasonal and his young family continued to grow, Allan sought a more stable career. He entered the fiberglass manufacturing industry, first with Northwest Design and later with Structural Glass, where he dedicated 34 years before retiring in 1998.

Above all else, Allan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, sharing a laugh, celebrating milestones,

telling stories, and creating lasting memories. He will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, generosity, sense of humor, and the love he showed those closest to him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Suffia Ahmad for the thoughtful, compassionate, and dedicated care she provided to Allan over the years. Your kindness, support, and genuine concern means so much to all of us.

We would also like to thank the triage teams at St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, along with the physicians, nurses, and staff of the Health Sciences Centre GA3 Step-Down Unit. A special thank you to Dr. Ian, Dr. Romano, and nurses Olivia, Kay, and Jay for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they showed Allan and our family during his final days. Your professionalism, comfort, and support will never be forgotten.

A service will be held Friday July 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street Winnipeg, MB R2W 3V7

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allan’s name to CancerCare Manitoba or Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
