Janina Sawka (nee Kosopud)

(August 1, 1929 – June 19, 2026)

Janina passed away suddenly at the age of 96 years in Toronto, Canada.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mikal and Maria and her husband, Mike (Mykola). 

Janina is survived by her daughter, Dr. Anna Sawka, husband Steven Bosnick and grandchild Christina Bosnick; son, Dr. Andrew Sawka, wife Dr. Judy Chen, and grandchildren Justine, Claudia and Andie Sawka.

Janina was born in Jedrzejowska, Poland and moved to Canada in 1965. She married Mike (Mykola) in 1967 in Winnipeg.  She worked as a cook, a baker and a seamstress. She and her husband moved to Toronto, Canada in 2008, where she and Mike were members of St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church. Janina and Mike shared a “great time” in their retirement years in Toronto.

The visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. The Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Avenue, on Friday June 26, 2026 at 10:30 am. Janina will be laid to rest beside her husband at All Saints Cemetery in West St. Paul, Manitoba.

For those wishing to make donations in lieu of sending flowers, a gift may be given to St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 La Rose Avenue, Toronto, Canada.
