JOAN WYNNYK

MARCH 21, 1934 – JUNE 9, 2026

Joan passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026 after a brief illness at the age of 92 at Grace Hospice with family by her side.  She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years Russell, parents William and Elizabeth Calvert and numerous aunts and uncles. She will be lovingly missed by her brother Allan Calvert (Betty) in Ancaster, Ontario as well as sons Brent (Holly) and Blair (Teresa), grandchildren Jenna (Taylor), Jessie-Lynne, Spencer, Brandon (Jenna) and Nicole as well as great grandchildren Cooper and Jack.

Mom was born in Winnipeg and grew up in West Kildonan. She met and married Russell in 1956 and made a home raising Brent and Blair. She was an awesome mom who supported her “boys” as she called them in all of their activities and endeavors in life. She was always available to be a driver to hockey and football games and practices. Mom loved entertaining and having people around. Our home became the gathering place for friends and guests never went hungry. She had unwavering love for her grandchildren and loved visits and family get togethers. She was so proud of all of them and always took the time to brag about their accomplishments.

Mom loved family get togethers whether it was birthdays or Christmas. In early years Christmas included 30 people and any extras that tagged along. There was always food laughter and plenty of music. She was most happy when all of her family was together no matter what the occasion.

Mom enjoyed travelling and was able to go to Hawaii, Barbados, Florida and after dad retired they spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. She loved when family and friends would visit in Arizona.  

Mom was devoted to her faith and was a long-time parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in West Kildonan. She was a long-standing member of the Catholic Women’s League and always looked forward to Wednesday afternoon seniors club and bus trips to South Beach Casino where she would laugh saying she was heading out to spend the inheritance. Mom was active well into her 90’s and didn’t let mobility issues slow her down.  She faced her illness with courage, dignity and a positive attitude while maintaining her sense of humour. Her love of company continued during her final months in hospice. She was never too tired to welcome visitors. She was a gracious host and enjoyed a glass of wine with most of her visitors.   

The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion shown to mom and the family during her stay. She was allowed to live her final months with dignity and comfort.  A special thanks to Father Dominic for your weekly visits and spiritual support to mom. The family would also like to thank the numerous friends and relatives that visited on a regular basis to brighten her day.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Burrin Avenue with Fr. Dominic Yuen officiating. There will be a luncheon at the church immediately following the service. A private interment for family will follow.
