After a lengthy illness, it is with heavy hearts that we Announce, that peacefully, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Thursday, June 4,2026 aged 90 at Concordia Place

Mom’s memory will forever be cherished by her children, Gail (Ken), Donald, Wilma, Brent (Nicole); her 4 grandchildren; sister Helen; sisters-in-law Alexandra and Gloria as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends

Josephine was predeceased by her husband Michael; mother Angela and father Tom; her sister Jenny; brothers-in-law Ed, Phillip, Bill, Alan and Wolfgang and sister-in-law Olga.

Mom was born on July 2,1935 in Winnipeg. She grew up in the East Kildonan area and spent her early years working in a shoe factory until she married Mike in 1960.

While she raised her 4 children, she worked part time cleaning houses, and at The Town ‘N Country Restaurant.   She spent many years working part time as a custodian with the River East School Division until her retirement in 1996.

Mom's joy came from spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. There was always lots of room at the table, with lots of food and a pot of coffee on. Her homemade perogies were legendary. She made sure her family was taking care; of always cooking, baking, sewing, and cleaning. She loved the outdoors, including camping, sitting on her deck and travelling. She enjoyed listening to Ukrainian music and in her later years, scrap booking and going with friends on many bus tours and fall suppers.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and wife to her husband of 46 years, and a great friend.

A heartfelt thanks to the staff at Concordia Place for their care and compassion.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers are Ken Paton, Chris Paton, Brady Paton, Phillip Starodub, Dale Paton and Lisa Schmidt

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mom’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
