David William Chambers

June 27th, 1942 – June 3, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David William Chambers on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 83.

David was predeceased by his first wife Shirley; his adoptive parents, Mabel and Ernest Chambers; his foster parents Martha and Herbert Kummerfelt and later John Fuchs; his brother Barry Fuchs; his sisters-in-law Sharon Fuchs, Margaret Fuchs, Linda Cameron and Sandra Stevenson; and his brothers-in-law Ron Barr, Frank Ashley and Darcy Nynych.

He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his loving wife Diane Sitybell and his children Bill Chambers (Wendy), Sheila Boyce and Chris Sitybell. He is fondly remembered by his sisters Rosemary Meisner, Eileen Ashley, Marcella Nynych, Marlene Rink and Darlene Andre; his brother Wayne Fuchs and his sister-in-law Bev Downing.

David was a proud grandfather who was lovingly called Papa to Jasmine Sauteur, Jeremy Sauteur (Nicole), Robert Chadwick, Scott Chadwick, Katie Chambers, Ben Chambers and Carson Chambers; and a doting great-grandfather to Ember and Miikwan. He was lovingly referred to as Papa by Drake and Kirsten Nynych and Robert and Chanel Schulz as well Uncle D to the entire Ashley and Fuchs Clans. He will also be deeply missed by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

His life story began in Winnipeg where he was adopted by Mabel and Ernest; David spent his early years with his adoptive family on the farm in Oatfield Manitoba. Later, with his sister Rosemary by his side, he made his way to Moosehorn, Manitoba. This move further expanded their family and set the stage for the difficult, yet deeply rewarding life journey that lay ahead for them both. As a youth, David worked hard on the farm whenever he wasn't in school. He eventually returned to Winnipeg, where he worked various jobs to support and raise his family. This included a dedicated career of over 35 years with Drummond McCall (now Russel Metals).

David was a high-energy, focused man who possessed a remarkable talent for fixing, repairing and building. Throughout his lifetime, he successfully channeled these skills into many different side jobs and projects. Later in life, David met his second wife, Diane. Together, they embarked on a new adventure in real estate and rental properties. Their union brought a shared focus on their newly expanded families and ignited a mutual love for travel. Though they may have had a slower start to their travels, they made up for lost time by managing to see and do a great many things, including escaping the harsh Manitoba winters for 13 wonderful years first going to Florida and later Texas.  When they were in Manitoba, they were enjoying the water in Lac Du Bonnet enjoying every minute with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Those kids were either swimming, fishing, or jumping off the jumping rock all while enjoying their Papa and Grandma’s barbeque.

David was also a fixture with his friend Dave at the Farmers Market on weekends selling their carvings and woodworking crafts most Saturdays in the summer.  David spent his entire life without a single operation or medical stay in a hospital until his cancer diagnosis in the fall of 2025.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Cancer Care Manitoba for their guidance, and to the team at the Riverview Health Centre for the exceptional, compassionate care provided to David in his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
