With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Natalia Garcia de Sousa Amaral on May 28th at the age of 81.  Natalia passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a brief illness at Grace Hospital.

Born on December 15, 1944, in Livramento, São Miguel, Açores, she made the journey to Winnipeg with our father in November 1973, where they established their home and built their lives.  She lived a life filled with faith, love and family.

Natalia was predeceased by her husband, Jose, father, Mariano Libanio de Sousa, mother, Maria do Rosario Garcia, three sisters (Gilda, Milarges and Olguete) and two brothers (Mariano and Duarte).  She is survived by her two daughters, Veronica and Sandra, one sister, (Eduarda), sister-in-law, (Maria do Rosario), numerous nieces and nephews and her most cherished companion, Klondike.

We would like to thank the entire medical team at the Grace Emergency dept and the City of Winnipeg Fire/Paramedics for your care and compassion.  A special thank you to Maria do Rosario Amaral, Nelia and Danny Monis for taking such good care of our mother…. whether it be in a supportive role when we had to step away or handling any handy work to make mom’s life a little easier.

Prayers will be held on Thursday, June 4th at 7 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel (1442 Main St).  Funeral services will be held the following day, Friday, June 5th at 10am at Cropo Funeral Chapel with Natalia being laid to rest next to her husband at Holy Family Cemetery.
