Victor Kominowski

Peacefully with his family by his side, Victor Kominowski passed away on Saturday,  May 9, 2026, at St. Boniface Hospital, age 94. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia, and son, James. He also leaves to mourn his passing, his nieces, Jeannie (Gary) Ruczak, Nancy Sierhuis,  Jenny Kominowski, and Tracy (Peter) Leclerc, and extended family.  Victor was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years Helen (Olenka); his brothers, Joseph, John, Walter, Edward and Stanley;  sisters, Mary and Bernice; and sisters-in-law Helen Kominowski, Rose Kelly, and Stephanie (Milton) Glowacki.

 Victor was born in Walkleyburg (in present-day Selkirk), Manitoba, to parents, Benjamin (Bronislaw) and Genowefa (Genia) Kominowski on July 7, 1931. He attended Hugh John MacDonald Junior High and St. John’s High Schools.  As a young man, he served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and shortly after, was hired as a switchman with the Canadian National Railway, where he was employed until his retirement in 1994.

From the time of his youth, he was always very active playing football and hockey. In retirement, this continued as he and Helen looked forward to their daily walks, and just spending time together. He savoured the summer weather, when he could spend time outside and work in his garden. Always the perfectionist, it was difficult to find a trace of snow on his driveway, a weed in his garden, or a leaf on his lawn.  He was wonderful father, who loved his children, and always encouraged and supported them. In his later years, he enjoyed travelling with his son and daughter, especially to California, and the many road trips he shared with them. His Catholic faith was very important to him, and it sustained him throughout his life.

The family extends their appreciation to Home Care Winnipeg for its assistance during these past 3 years. To the paramedics and the medical staff members at St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Services for their compassion during dad’s final hours. We are most grateful to Fr. Greg Mulligan, for praying over and anointing dad during his final moments.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. or to the Canadian Cancer Society. A private funeral mass has taken place, with interment to follow at a later date.
