JEAN UHRYN Obituary

JEAN UHRYN

March 31, 1931 – April 29, 2026

It is with profound sadness, but also with grateful hearts for a long and full life, that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Uhryn age 95.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Ken; daughter Linda (Rob); and her grandchildren Alexandria, Jacquelyn, and Taylor. She will also be missed by her siblings Harry, Stanley (Terrie), Nettie (Harold), as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter, her son James, her brother Edward and sister-in-law Margaret .

Born in the small community of Ledwyn, Manitoba, Jean embraced responsibility early as the eldest child, caring for her siblings, contributing to farm life, and developing the strong work ethic and nurturing spirit that would guide her throughout her life.

At the age of 18, Jean moved to Winnipeg, where she worked as an elevator operator at Eaton’s. Soon after, she found her calling in healthcare and began working at Children’s Hospital as a Health Care Aide. Her warmth, competence, and dedication to her patients earned her a reputation for providing exceptional care.

She met the love of her life, Peter, and they were married on June 19,1954. Together, they built a home and raised their children Ken, Jimmy, and Linda. Their life was filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family and many friends.

Jean’s three grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She babysat frequently and was known affectionately in the neighborhood as “Super Baba” friendly and full of life, with a kitchen always busy and welcoming.

She also embraced adventure and, throughout her life, enjoyed travelling to many countries, including Ukraine, Poland, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, as well as many cities across the United States.

After the tragic loss of her husband in 1997, she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience, managing her home independently and continuing to support her family with grace and determination. In her final years, she resided at Holy Family Nursing Home. Even as her memory declined, her spirit remained rooted in clear and proud memories of her life and family.

The family extends a sincere thank you to the healthcare team at Holy Family Home for the exceptional care and kindness shown to our mother.

Jean will be fondly remembered not only for her remarkable strength and courage, but for the qualities that made others feel safe, cared for, and genuinely valued. Her life leaves a lasting imprint of goodness on all who knew her.

A service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
